Dr. Skversky has committed the past 18 years of his professional career to the medical treatment of the overweight patient. He has been at the forefront of treating obesity as a chronic disease using combination drug therapy, in addition to diet and exercise on a long term basis.

At Weight No More, I treat overweight and obesity the same way I treat diabetes and hypertension, using combination drug therapy, in addition to diet and exercise protocols. I consider this to be a long term program since we’re treating a long term problem. Although diet and exercise are essential adjuncts of any prudent comprehensive program, they rarely, by themselves, result in long term weight loss control.

My commitment to my patients goes far beyond just helping them lose weight. My personal hope is that success in our program will be a stepping stone to an increase in self-esteem and will inspire people to achieve and excel beyond what they thought was possible.

The following statement was issued by The National Task Force on Obesity and published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) December 18, 1996.

BECAUSE OBESITY IS A DISORDER THAT CANNOT BE EXPECTED TO REMIT WITHOUT CONTINUED TREATMENT, SHORT-TERM (WEEKS OR MONTHS) TREATMENT OF OBESITY WITH DRUGS IS GENERALLY NOT WARRANTED. TREATMENT WITH MEDICATIONS WILL LIKELY NEED TO BE CONTINUED FOR YEARS, AND PERHAPS FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE PATIENT, TO SUSTAIN WEIGHT-LOSS AND IMPROVE HEALTH.

As a practicing physician who specializes in medical weight loss, “diets” do not work for long term weight control. Obesity is a genetic, metabolic, chronic and progressive disease much like diabetes and hypertension. Chronic diseases need chronic therapy.
